Privacy and Data Collection

Privacy Policy Notice

Your privacy is very important to me and you can be confident that your personal information will be kept safe and secure and will only be used for the purpose it was given to me. I adhere to current data protection legislation, including the General Data Protection Regulation (EU/2016/679) (the GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003.

I therefore wish to let you know about how I hold the information you provide to me.  My intention is that this Notice is clear and comprehensive.  However, do please get in touch, using the Contact Form, if you have any concerns or questions.

When we agree to work together, it is considered that we have formed a ‘contract’.  Part of my contract to provide psychological therapy to you is that I ask you to give me certain information that will help me work with you.  In addition, if you contact me via my website Contact Form, I will  have your e-mail address and contact number which I will also retain to enable me to respond to you. If we agree to have further contact, I will retain these details along with any notes I take from working together.

The only reason I hold any information about you is in order be able to contact you about appointments, to provide therapy and review progress.  This information is only seen by myself and will not used for any other purpose without your explicit consent.

As a therapist I have regular supervision sessions to support my work but individual client details are never disclosed.  The only exception to confidentiality is in the rare case that I might feel you are at risk of harm, either to yourself or others, when I may wish to contact your GP, for example.  In such circumstances, I would aim to discuss this with you first. Should other professionals be involved in your care, and you wished me to consult them to discuss your wellbeing, I would of course do so.

The Information I Keep

Notes

I keep notes from sessions to support my work with you.  These are retained in password protected files on a discreet, removable, password-protected hard drive that is locked in my home office when not in use.

I am required to keep notes for 7 years after which time they are securely destroyed.

Personal Information

Personal information is held digitally in a file along with your notes file.  This is the information you provided me with at the start of our work.  A blank of the form you completed can be found

Emails and Texts

I will transfer any significant information from email and text messages to your personal secure file.  Original messages will then be deleted.
