An adult ADHD assessment has a number of steps:

  Step 1

We begin by using recognised screening tools, followed by a 60-90 minute consultation, to consider whether ADHD is the most likely explanation of your experience. This can include gathering information from someone who has known you since childhood or who knows you well currently. Following this, you will receive a comprehensive letter outlining my findings. If ADHD is not indicated, I will offer suggestions of alternative explanations and suggest places where you might seek appropriate help and guidance.

If at this point, ADHD appears to be the most likely explanation…….

  Step 2

We will move forward to a fully comprehensive consultation based on the Gold-Standard process for ADHD assessment as promoted by NICE and UKAAN.  People should allow a half-day for this step.  This consultation is followed by a detailed feedback session.

  Step 3

You will be provided with a comprehensive, confidential,  report detailing the results of all the screenings and consultation content.  It will also provide individualised  recommendations.  People are offered a further follow up consultation a few weeks later as it can take some time to process the content and implications of your report.

Adult ADHD Assessment Process

The criteria for diagnosing ADHD are very specific, and the process to gather sufficient, detailed information is comprehensive and wide-ranging. This means that, as well as ascertaining whether these criteria are met, we also achieve an extensive and inclusive view of you with your strengths and challenges. We can then consider what steps you wish to take to support yourself – whether you have ADHD or not.
